ONLINE GRADUATION REGALIA ORDER FORM
While not obligatory, many faculty members with doctoral degrees opt to purchase a doctoral tam instead of a plain black mortarboard. This choice distinguishes them from their students and colleagues who do not hold doctoral degrees.
You can select doctoral tams with either four, six, or eight corners, paired with either a gold silky or gold metallic jumbo doctoral tassel,s.
We keep doctoral tams in stock in traditional black velvet, and can also make them in your choice of colors such as Red or Blue.
Most professors and faculty members choose six or eight sided doctoral tams.
Extremely tall and skinny people may do better with the 8 corner tam since it tends to look more round, and help "fill a person out", while short stocky people may do better with a 4 corner model, since it is sharper and thus makes the person look "less round".
The cost of the four - six - or eight sided tams are $92.00 with the bullion tassel or $78.50 with the silky tassel
If purchasing the doctoraltam without a gown, the price of the four and six sided tam is the same as shown above, but the eight sided tam is $20.00 extra.
Tams in blue or red or other velvet colors other than black are $20.00 extra.
Beefeaters tams are $185.00
When ordering your velvet tam, you have the option to provide either your head measurement or your hat size if you already know it.
To measure, measure the circumference of your head about an inch above your eyebrows using a tape measure. Typically, this measurement should fall between 22 and 23 1/2 inches. Ensure a snug but comfortable fit, avoiding tightness. Round your measurement to the nearest quarter inch. If you find yourself between sizes, it's advisable to select the larger quarter inch size.
Hat sizes may include 6 7/8, 7 1/4, 7 3/8, and so forth.
